[edit] BELOW THIS LINE kept for posterity.

[edit] Discussion, Debate

[edit] Big Problems

  • What are the big issues for SFC nationwide in 2009? What issues present the most pressing areas for collaboration? Where is our energy most needed?
  • What are the ultimate goals of SFC?

[edit] Fair Use

  • What do we want out of fair use? What principles do we want organizations to respect?
  • What can SFC do to deter encroachment on these values?

[edit] Non-Free Confessional

  • Asheesh leads a group in a discussion of residual non-free technologies in their lives and what to do about it
  • Tim can talk about ideas for the Culture Confessional Project

[edit] Free and Open Gaming

  • Why don't the benefits of foss work with the game dev community?
  • What would foss gaming be like?
  • What are your favorite foss games?
  • What are the best foss game dev tools?

[edit] Gender and the Free Culture Movement

  • How does this movement challenge or perpetuate existing patriarchal hierarchies in other tech-leaning groups?

[edit] Just Do It

  • What proprietary information could provide the most public good if made open?
  • What mechanisms exist for "leaking" it?
  • What economic devices exist to keep it open?
  • We will examine some existing examples.

[edit] Workshop

[edit] Fundable grant requests

[edit] Assembling low-cost FM and TV transmitter kits

  • Stephen Dunifer demonstrates the basics for starting a DIY broadcast studio

Stephen Dunifer xmtrman ///at/// pacbell.net

"We would like to have the opportunity to present the technology we have designed and developed - low cost FM and TV broadcast transmitter kits. Just as DRM regulations and laws are used to stifle free speech and the free exchange of information along with the enhancement of corporate profit and control, FCC broadcast regulatory and legal structures are employed for the same intents and purposes. For the last 15 years I have been one the main people (just enter my name "Stephen Dunifer" or the term "Free Radio" as search terms in your preferred search engine) involved in a campaign of electronic civil disobedience to reclaim the broadcast airwaves as a common property of everyone. I see the battle to keep the internet free and open within the same context. I am an enthusiastic supporter of bottom-up, grassroots DIY movements."

[edit] Starting an OpenCourseWare Platform At Your School!

  • Pimping the Bureaucratic System
  • Lessons learned so far, the future

[edit] Projects

[edit] Development/A2K (Kevin and Tim have been talking about the noon slot in our invites to people)

  • Collecting professionals and FCers interested in working widening the involvement of SFC in development issues.
  • Discussion to center on possibilities for student activists to get involved in these efforts.
  • Sharing of existing projects/project ideas...

[edit] Nelson: 10 mins on the history (and future!) of SFC

All I want is 10 minutes, a projector, and as many people watching as possible (ideally the whole conference). I don't care whether it happens on Day 1 or Day 2, whichever seems best, but Driscoll has expressed concerns that there may not be enough space to get everyone together on day 2. I'll talk mostly about the history of SFC and engage in nostalgia, and throw in a little bit about my hopes for the future at the end. --Skyfaller 23:06, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
